Glass School Nový Bor | web

The current Glass School was founded on January 1st 2004, when two local glass schools with a lasting tradition since 1763 were joined together.

The school offers to students secondary and higher specialized education. There are artistic and glass craft fields of study, such as glass blowing, engraving, grinding, abrasion, and painting of glass and studio stained glass. Further there is also secondary education at four-year Grammar School, Preschool and Out-of-school Pedagogy, and Interior Design. The secondary education takes either tree years, ends with a final exam and obtaining the certificate of apprenticeship, or four years finishing with maturita exam (school leaving examination). The higher education is designated for secondary school graduates with maturita exam. It takes three years, ends with a leaving certificate and obtaining a DiS degree – certified specialist.

To foreign and Czech public, the school offers attendance of practical glass courses – blowing, engraving, grinding, abrasion, glass painting, stained glass, fusing, melted glass sculpture; also Czech language conversational lessons, computer lessons, English, German, Russian lessons.

The school has its own workshops, glass works and studios.

It also provides accommodation and canteen catering in its Youth House, to both students and course participants as well.

A gallery makes another integral part of the school. It exhibits the best student works and holds exhibitions. The school also has two stores selling products of the students.

Students are sent abroad several times a year. They take part in exchange internships, courses and exhibitions, or cooperate with students from other European schools, where they exchange and obtain further information and experience.
