The Town of Nový Bor | web

Nový Bor, a town of glass, verdure and gardens, is a home to approximately 12 thousand people. It lies amid forests below the mountain Klíč (Key) and is forming a notional gate to the Lužické Mountains (Lusetian Mountains). The history of this town starts in 1757. You can see all the different architectonical styles of previous times at the square Míru (Peace). There is a baroque church Nanebevzetí Panny Marie (Assumption of the Virgin Mary) with a scarce organ, an Art Nouveau post office building and several bourgeois houses. In one of them you can find the town hall; in another the Glass Museum of Nový Bor with its unique collections of glass. Glass has always been closely connected with the town. It is its history and its present as well. The glass industry has been part of the town since the 17th century. The history can be found in the Glass Museum; however, the present is represented by local glass workshops, studios and galleries that welcome the visitors to admire this fragile beauty. The higher education at the local Glass School is only one of a kind in the Czech Republic. At the Lesní cemetery (the Forest cemetery), which is a European rarity, there are not only other glass objects reminding us of old local glass families, but a memorial of the Rumburk rebellion as well. Navrátil Hall with its unique ceiling frescos is further evidence that art and culture have always played an important part in the history of Nový Bor.
