The town, called also the entrance gateway to the Lusatian Mountains, is situated midst green areas at the foot of the Klíč hill. This forms the northern dominant of the town, the history of which has been written since 1757, when the empress Maria Teresa promoted the developing village to town by the count Kinský´s request. Various historical periods have met in the Míru square, where a late baroque Virgin Mary Assumption with a rare organ, secession post-office building as well as numerous burgess houses can be found. One of them accommodates the town hall, another one the glass museum with unique glass collections. Also the municipal tourist information centre is situated in a historically valuable building in the T.G. Masaryk Avenue, near by a burgess house, where the Navrátil Hall with outstanding ceiling paintings can be visited.
